This topic is intended for all of my prospective home buyers out there. I want you to know that you do have rights that are afforded to you as a buyer in a real estate transaction.
The Equal Credit Opportunity Act is something that not many of home buyers know about. This act was put into place so that lenders can only take certain considerations when seeing if you are fit for a loan.
They can certainly look at your employment, your credit score, and your assets. However, they cannot consider your marital status, sexual orientation, race, age, or gender when deciding whether or not to give you a loan.
If a lender asks you about these things, you shouldn’t continue working with them. It’s unethical and it’s also illegal. If you would like to learn more about your rights as a buyer, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
I look forward to continuing this conversation!
